Our new theme is "Period movie"! We've had the "period" theme for tv shows before, but not for movies. (And it was
one of our most popular rounds.)
The definition for "period" is: any movie that is specifically set in a "realistic past" time counts. Movies that are set in the future go into the scifi category and don't count. Movies that add obvious fantasy elements, like Lord of the Rings, or anything featuring vampires or werewolves, don't count. Same goes for a lot of Chinese martial arts movies with their mish-mash of dynasties and flying fighters, for example.
Movies made in the 2010s but set in the 1980s count. Movies made in the 1980s and set in the 1980s don't count. Any time period that is set a sufficiently long time (say, at least ten years) before the movie was made counts. It doesn't matter if the movie has a fictional premise (e.g. a novel), as long as the world depicted is realistic enough for the time period. That means that RDJ's Sherlock Holmes movies all count, or all Jane Austen movies for example (but not the mini series). If you are unsure, ask and we'll try to clear it up together.
Have fun!
