I said I would try to enter and I did (I love this comm and I don't participate enough, sigh) -- these are my first icons of 2021! It was hard to pick because I have many OTPs I love and adore and that I don't icon enough… but I ultimately went with two that I have posted about ~~hundreds of times~~ inspire me the most 😬

Made something pretty last minute (and they look so weird) but I really wanted to enter this challenge :)

It was hard to just pick two crime shows! (We've already established I'm bad at picking anything.) These two are both dramas but have wildly different tones/styles/everything. I have watched quite a lot of procedurals/crime shows that I consider to be amongst my favorites but in the end, I went with the show that brought me to internet fandom (more than ten years ago, wtf where did time go) + the most heartbreaking and beautiful one I've watched in the last year.

I trust someone might rep B99 soon? :)

The more I think about it, the more I keep thinking of more female tv characters I simply adore and deserve some love. But in the end, it had to be these two ladies. I wish I wasn't so rusty or uninspired lately (even if I tried to make something more complex with the second one -- keyword tried) but I had to enter something for this challenge ♥

alts - I had a hard time picking which two icons I should enter and probably chose wrong. So here's the other four I kept swapping in and out! (Only the first one is a pure alt, lbr, and I have at least 3 other versions).

4x thirtysomething (1987-1991)

I watched most of the 80s shows I have when I was little and can't remember much of them now :( I'll get around to them eventually but music rights are a problem (and the reason this show, and many others like The Wonder Years, aren't available to stream). I did watch thirtysomething almost a year ago and, in a twist literally anyone who's seen some of my icons in the past year could've seen coming, I chose this show! I could've gone with The Simpsons (whose first tv appearance was in 1987 as well), which is a classic.
~~As you can tell, most of these aren't DVD caps (only the first one iirc; others are from online players) and the quality for 80s shows is not great.~~

I think this review or this one summarize some of my feelings about this show pretty well and more eloquently than I could.
I might write more about it on my LJ once I post the icons so I don't take up much space here. I only heard of this show because my mom mentioned it while watching TWW more than a few times (a few before I watched it and many spoilery mentions after, too). I eventually checked it out and a couple of episodes later... I was hooked. I'm a sucker for shows where life happens and the stakes are relatively low -- a great respite from others -- but are still good. Great characters, fantastic performances. Plus It was kind of innovative for its era, too. I enjoyed it (even if it was a hard binge at times) and that's all I need. /soapbox

So... this is not really swearing... though it also is. My fave swear word is fuck (like many of the posts so far) but my muse decided to go in a totally different direction for the challenge. TGP just has the best swearing in network tv and I just love it so much – so much so, the first icon contains the first swear I thought of when I saw the challenge's prompt. I did want to tackle Veep, which has some truly amazing insults/swearing, or other shows on cable that can swear but... I kept coming back to The Good Place. There are so many I left out and I'm sad I didn't get to use them.

It was really hard to just choose four kisses!! I honestly just ran out of time to make something but I knew I wanted to. I am not even sure if these are my favorites but I do love all of them very much. Besides, I think I chose four couples I adore that hadn't been represented in the challenge yet :) Funnily enough, I put them in chronological order here.
