Challenge #175 Desserts

For this challenge, I chose 2 of my favorite desserts: Halo-Halo and Turon!

As usual, the first 2 are the former and the final 2 are the latter.

Halo-Halo (pronounced Hah-low Hah-low) translates to Mix-Mix. It's a Filipino dessert made with shaved ice that's layered in condensed milk, ube ice cream, jellies, sweetened red beans, coconut flakes, and various fresh fruits (I like mine with jackfruit and sabo bananas). Flan is also another staple usually added to Halo-Halo. After everything is layered, you mix it together and enjoy!

Turon is also a Filipino dessert. It's a banana coated in brown sugar, then wrapped into a lumpia wrapper (spring roll wrap) and fried to a golden brown. Most variations use sabo bananas and jackfruit, but they can be made with the typical banana as well. Using your run-of-the-mill banana just ends up being an even stickier and sweeter mess. Either way, very tasty!

Oh, very cool! Thank you so much for explaining! I don't know either of these, but the idea of a fried banana is always appealing! :D

Icon-wise, I like the second one best. Hmmm, yummy!

The first time my mom made it for me, she used normal bananas. It's actually a little less sweet and a little more firm using Sabo bananas. Either way, it's delicious!

An alternative without the spring roll wrapper is Banana Cue. It's a Sabo banana coated in brown sugar, placed on a skewer, then fried. It's very good as well! But, I don't know if a Sabo banana can be substituted with the average banana.

The description of the desserts made me incredibly hungry. You really have a very powerful gift of description. I love the pics you've chosen , especially the coloring of the Halo Halo icons.

Halo-Halo! I have family with Filipino heritage and remember giving that a try with them. :)

I really like the lighting on icon 2 as well.
